- Identify and understand the local priorities for preparedness and response including potential member/partner priorities and political priorities.
- Build on the existing planning work you have already done
- Prioritize planning activities that will maximize daily benefits and not necessarily only disaster centric, for example Emergency Department saturation planning strategies
- Build onto existing Regional meetings with Public Health, local hospitals, and emergency management partners
- Revisit your planning priorities often
- Keep in mind that staff do not necessarily need to be full time employees
- Create synergy with other planning efforts, for example teams that are doing emergency planning for vulnerable populations.
- Be flexible in the planning process
